Good to know
How do I order the length I need?
Choose any length from 0.5 m in 10 cm increments — for example, 1.3 m or 2.7 m. Up to 20 m, you can order in 10 cm increments; above 20 m, in whole metres. Need several pieces of different lengths? Use “Add a piece of another length” and we'll cut them separately.
Can I get a sample first?
Yes. I offer a free 10 × 15 cm sample of any fabric, so you can check the colour, weight and feel before ordering. Postage may be charged. Choose “Fabric sample” on the product page.
Which fabric weight should I choose?
Light gauze (about 100 g/m²) is airy and soft — ideal for shirts, dresses, scarves and sheer curtains. Medium-weight linen (about 190–200 g/m²) is suitable for clothing, bedding and table linen. Heavy linen (up to 300 g/m²) is ideal for bags, aprons, cushions, tablecloths and curtains with a beautiful drape. The exact weight is given in each fabric description.
Does linen shrink? Should I wash it first?
Yes, natural linen shrinks when washed. The shrinkage of each fabric is stated in its description and represents the final shrinkage value. Most shrinkage occurs during the first wash, although it may sometimes be completed only after the second. Wash the fabric before cutting, at the temperature you intend to use for future washes, and order about 10% extra length to make sure you have enough. Or tick “I want this length after washing” on the product page: I'll add this fabric's shrinkage to your length automatically, rounded up to the next 10 cm.
How wide are your fabrics?
I offer linen in several widths: standard fabrics are 140–150 cm wide, while extra-wide linen starts at about 274 cm — wide enough for a duvet cover or a large tablecloth without a seam. The exact width of each fabric is shown on its product card and in its description.
Do you finish the cut edges?
Yes, on request and free of charge. I overlock both cut edges to prevent the fabric from fraying during transit and before the first wash. Simply tick “Overlock the edges” before adding the fabric to your cart.
How fast do you ship?
Fabrics in stock leave my studio in Škofja Loka, Slovenia, on the next working day. If you need more fabric than I have in stock, I'll contact you before cutting and agree on a delivery date. For whole rolls or wholesale quantities, write to info@linenfriday.com.
Can I return cut fabric?
Yes. You can withdraw from your purchase within 30 days of delivery, also for cut fabric — see the refund policy. Washing, cutting further or sewing goes beyond checking the fabric: if it comes back washed, cut or sewn, I deduct the loss of value from the refund, up to the full price. Return shipping is at your expense. If you're unsure about the colour or weight, order a sample first — the surest way to choose the right fabric from the start.
Is all linen the same?
No — the flax fibre makes the difference. Long-line flax fibre is wet-spun into a smooth, strong yarn. The resulting fabric feels soft, drapes beautifully, resists pilling and becomes softer with every wash. Short fibre (tow) is cheaper and produces a hairier yarn that can feel scratchy, pill and shrink more. I compare fabrics from several European linen mills and select each one by hand. Long-fibre quality is my benchmark.
